God’s Blessing/The Benediction
By this term is meant an act or pronouncement of blessing. The Aaronic benediction was given to Aaron and his sons as a part of their ministry in God’s behalf toward the people, and is epitomized as a putting of God’s name upon them (Num. 6:22-27). The New Testament parallel is the apostolic benediction (11 Cor. 13:14), which reflects the progress of revelation by its emphasis on the Trinity.
In his book O Come Let Us Worship, Robert Rayburn writes, “........no worshipers should ever be sent forth to serve in their own strength. They must ever be dismissed in the name of the Lord with the assurance of the power and presence of the Triune God to accompany them always.”
